Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led some to wonder if his skill to perform at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
